Georgia real estate email signature requirements

Georgia's advertising rule lists email as a medium but is written around advertising real estate for sale or lease. It requires the firm's name and phone number when an ad markets specific property, and a license number only when a licensee advertises their own property.

Regulator: Georgia Real Estate Commission. Summarized from the rule text and official guidance linked below, as of September 28, 2026. Not legal advice.

Does the rule cover email?

  • Rule 520-1-.09(1) defines advertising as any method by which a licensee, through any media, makes known to the general public real estate for sale, rent, lease or exchange. The definition of media includes email.
  • Paragraph (2.1) says all advertising by associate brokers, salespersons and community association managers must be under the direct supervision of their broker and in the name of their firm.
  • Paragraph (7) says that when advertising specific real estate the ad must include the firm's registered name and telephone number, with the firm name at least as prominent as any agent's name.
  • Paragraph (10) says a licensee shall make every reasonable attempt in advertising to assure the public knows they are being contacted by a licensee.

Is a license number required?

  • Not required for ordinary advertising.
  • Paragraph (8)(3): when a licensee advertises property they own, the ad must carry either the legend “holds a real estate license” or “Georgia Real Estate License #” with the six-digit number.

Team names

  • No team rule is in the current rule text we read. The Commission proposed a team-name amendment in 2021; we found no adopted team provision, so do not treat the proposal as law.

Anything specific to signatures

  • A generic signature that does not advertise a specific property is not clearly covered. Firm name and phone are required when the email advertises specific real estate.
  • The Commission's “Advertising Rules at a Glance” (2023) has no email reference.

A practical checklist

Our reading of the rules above, not language from any rule. Your broker-in-charge has the final say.

  • Show the firm's registered name and phone number alongside your own.
  • Keep the firm name at least as prominent as yours.
  • Do not put your own name in place of the firm's on anything that markets a property.

What we could not confirm

  • The latest amendment in the rule's history is effective May 1, 2014, in a compilation current through September 2026.
